Simple Creamy Avocado Dip

Simple Creamy Avocado Dip

This simple easy creamy avocado dip is one of our household favorites. It has the great flavor of avocados, and with some added ingredients you can move it to a spicier level. This is so simple, that even the kids can make it. You’re going to want to enjoy this with tortilla chips, bagel chips, or pita chips.

ADDITIONS

DICED JALEPENOS – With or without the seeds adds extra spice. You can also add a little cayenne pepper, or finely shredded pepperjack cheese to the mixture to increase the heat.

CRUMBLED BACON – This creates another layer of added flavor. You can cook and crumble about 4-6 slices to mix in or add precooked bacon pieces.

FRESH CILINATRO – Please add fresh cilantro to the mix and a little to garnish the top, if you like the taste of it. We keep a little jar of dried cilantro on hand just in case, but it never gives it the flavor it deserves.

  • Add finely chopped cilantro on the top as a garnish right before serving. If you don't like cilantro, you can leave it out.

TIPS AND SUBSTITUTIONS

  • This can be made ahead of time but is best served chilled overnight. If you are in a time crunch, chilling for a few hours will work.
  • It keeps well in the fridge in an air-tight container for a few days, but freezing it isn’t recommended.
  • You can substitute the mayonnaise for low fat Greek yogurt to give the same consistency if that works better for you.
  • Let your cream cheese sit out on the counter for 20 plus minutes before using. It gives it a creamier taste, and you don’t end up with little lumps in your dip.
  • You want to use some good ripe avocadoes that have a little give to them. Much a like a tennis ball. If they are too hard, it won’t work well. You want everything nice and creamy.

Creamy Avocado Dip Ingredients

You’ll Need:

  • 2 nicely ripe avocadoes, but not too hard.
  • 1 8 oz. Block of Cream Cheese (room temperature)
  • 1/2 Cup Mayonnaise, or Greek yogurt
  • 1-2 tsp. Lemon juice to keep the avocado from turning brown.
  • 1/4 tsp. Seasoned Salt
  • 1/8 tsp. Black Pepper
  • 1/2 Small diced yellow onion. You can add the entire onion if you prefer. Also, using a cheese grater works to get a nice small, diced onion. TIP: Buy a large bag of yellow onions, dice, and keep them in freezer bags. We do dice, and rings, and then you always have some ready to go, and it becomes a time-saver.

ASSEMBLING THE DIP

Step One:

Peel, remove pit, cut into halves, and place the avocadoes in a medium bowl. Use the potato mashed to mash up all the pieces into a puree. You can leave a few little chucks if you like it chunkier.

Step Two:

Mix all of the remaining ingredients into the bowl, ensuring the everything is well blended. Put in the fridge covered with foil or saran wrap, for a few hours, and best overnight.

Step Three: (Optional)

If you enjoy the taste of cilantro, finely chop a good handful, and sprinkle over the top for garnish. This is only optional, so you leave it out if want.

Simple Creamy Avocado Dip

This dip works great for our family of four. One batch will last use through a good football or basketball game, so we never really have leftovers. For us, being kid friendly allows up to get them familiar with the kitchen, and our sone with down syndrome can easily eat the dip plain with no issues. It’s an all-around win for us! A good Hot Pizza Dip with a gooey cheese pull, a hot Creamy Beef Dip straight from a cast iron skillet, or something cool like Fruit Dip are also great for the entire family. If you’ve tried this, please drop us comment, we love to read the feedback!
