BBQ Black-Eyed Peas

BBQ Black-Eyed Peas

Sometimes during the summer, we grow weary of the tradition baked beans recipe. This recipe for BBQ black-eyed peas is what we go to as a close second option. Or, if you stick to the new year’s resolution of black-eyed peas, this might work for that too. If that fails, this is just another great option for a side dish during the summer. It’s quick, depending on how you make it, easy, and filling.

Cook Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Calories:

Ingredients

  • Β½ lb. Ground Beef
  • 1 Medium Onion diced.
  • Β½ Cup BBQ Sauce and a little extra just in case.
  • 3 tbsp Dijon Mustard
  • 6 tbsp Brown Sugar
  • ΒΌ Cup Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Minced Garlic
  • 2-3 Cans Black-eyed peas

Instructions

  • In a medium skillet brown the ground beef with the onion. Drain and set aside.
  • Add all remaining ingredients, and bake for an hour and a half at 325. A large cast iron skillet works best, but you can also use a baking dish. Check every so often, and if becomes dry add more BBQ sauce.

Notes

You can also use the dry bean method, by using a 1 lb. bag. Wash the beans in cold water and let them set in fridge overnight. Cook them on a slow simmer until they are almost tender, then proceed with the rest of the recipe.Β  This method works just as great, but it does take longer. We have used both methods, and the canned option works best for us. Of course, during the winter months, it’s nice to have a pot of beans simmering on the stove.Β Β
The dry bean method does make more, so you will need to add a little extra of the ingredients. 😁
