BBQ Black-Eyed Peas
Almost close to a baked bean recipe, and just as good. It comes in at a good second option if you are tired of baked beans. Plus, it's great side for a summer BBQ.

Course Side Dish
Cuisine American
- ½ lb. Ground Beef
- 1 Medium Onion diced.
- ½ Cup BBQ Sauce and a little extra just in case.
- 3 tbsp Dijon Mustard
- 6 tbsp Brown Sugar
- ¼ Cup Worcestershire Sauce
- 2 tbsp Minced Garlic
- 2-3 Cans Black-eyed peas
In a medium skillet brown the ground beef with the onion. Drain and set aside.
Add all remaining ingredients, and bake for an hour and a half at 325. A large cast iron skillet works best, but you can also use a baking dish. Check every so often, and if becomes dry add more BBQ sauce.
You can also use the dry bean method, by using a 1 lb. bag. Wash the beans in cold water and let them set in fridge overnight. Cook them on a slow simmer until they are almost tender, then proceed with the rest of the recipe. This method works just as great, but it does take longer. We have used both methods, and the canned option works best for us. Of course, during the winter months, it's nice to have a pot of beans simmering on the stove.
The dry bean method does make more, so you will need to add a little extra of the ingredients. 😁
