Tex Mex Wonton Cups
These tex-mex wonton cups are that recipe that you can use dozens of times every single year. We started making them about 10 or so years ago, and we have gradually adjusted them throughout the years. I have made them for birthday parties, wedding and baby showers, and even to take to a cookout during the summer. It should also be noted that these are a great option to take to the office for a food day! These are simply little spicy one-bite appetizers that you really can’t go wrong with.
Tex-Mex Wonton Cups
Equipment
- 1 Mini Muffin Pan
Ingredients
- 1 lb. Ground beef or Sausage
- 1 cup Liquid Ranch Dressing
- ¼ cup Diced Jalapenos with or without seeds depending on your level of spice.
- 3½ cups Shredded Cheese of your choice.
- 1 pkg 1 package wonton wrappers typically found in the produce department of your grocery store.
- 2-3 tbsp Taco Seasoning 1 packet
- 2 tbsp Chili powder
- Chopped Cilantro for garnish optional.
Instructions
- Brown your ground beef/sausage and break it up into small pieces. Once cooked, set it aside and let it cool. Adding the cheese too early will cause it to melt before it should. Make sure to drain as much of the grease as possible.
- Once cool, mix together all other ingredients.
- Spray the muffin pan with cooking spray.
- Next, take your mini muffin pan and place your wonton wrappers in each of the cups. Gently press the center of each wrapper so that it fills the cup and much as possible.
- Next take a small scoop or spoon and fill the wontons will your sausage cheese mixture. Mak sure not to over-fill or under-fill. The mixture should be about level with the top of the cup.
- Bake at 350 degrees for about 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
Ingredients
1 pound ground beef or sausage.
1 cup ranch dressing
1/4 cup diced jalapenos – with or without seeds depending on your level of spice.
3 1/2 cup shredded cheese or your choice.
1 package wonton wrappers. (You can find these in the produce section and keep cold until you are ready to use them).
1 packet or 2-3 tbsp. taco seasoning
2 tbsp chili powder
Chopped Cilantro for garnish – Optional.
Options: You can use fresh or jarred jalapenos, but if you choose jarred, make sure to add some of the juice to the mixture. It ADDS MORE FLAVOR. We’ve used Colby Jack, Taco flavored, and Pepperjack cheese, and all have been really good options.
Instructions
Brown your ground beef/sausage and break it up into small pieces. Once cooked, set it aside and let it cool. You don’t want to add the ingredients just yet because the ground beef/sausage will be to hot and melt your cheese. Once cool, mix together all other ingredients. If you use jarred jalapenos, I like to add some off the juice for more flavor. If you choose to go the less spicy route you can always remove the seeds and omit the spicier seasonings and opt for your own level of spice. You can make this mixture the night before you need to use it to save time if you like. They still turn out great!
TIP – Cook them in the oven right before serving. Text-mex wonton cups taste so much better when they’re piping hot!
Next, take your mini muffin pan and place your wonton wrappers in each of the cups. If you press the wrappers into the tin the edges will curl up and give you the look like what is pictures. Next take a small scoop or spoon and fill the wontons will your sausage cheese mixture.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm, or right out of the oven.
Enjoy!
