Beef Bourguignon

We have found that there are numerous ways to make a Beef Bourguignon recipe, but this one is the one that we settled on. This recipe works great for our family, and it’s rather simple to put together for any weekend night meal. You can make it in a crockpot if you wish, but we sued a Dutch oven. If you do not have a Dutch oven, it’s wise to invest in a good quality one. If properly cared for it will last forever and is very versatile for numerous different recipes. Depending on the number of people you may be cooking for, a good 6-quart does well for our family of four.

Beef Bourguignon

This is our simple and easy version of Beef Bourguignon. There are many different ways to make it with various ingredients, but this one works best for us.

Equipment

  • 1 Dutch Oven

Ingredients
  

  • 4 + lb. Chuck Roast
  • 1-2 Cups Water
  • 1 Cup Good Dry Red Wine (or more) 😁
  • ½ Cup Ketchup
  • 2 envelopes Beef flavored Mushroom or Onion Soup Mix.
  • 2-3 Bay Leaves
  • 2 tbsp White Wine Vinegar
  • 4 tbsp Tapioca
  • ½-1 lb Fresh Mushrooms (sliced)
  • 1 Pkg. Small Boiler Onions.
  • 3-4 Good-sized carrots chunked about 1/2 inch thick.

Instructions
 

  • In a medium bowl mix together the water, wine, ketchup, soup mix, vinegar, and tapioca.
  • Next place the chuck roast in the Dutch oven and pour the mixture over the top.
  • Drop in the bay leaves.
  • Place into a 250 °F
  • About an hour before removing take the roast out and add the carrots, onions and the mushrooms. Let it continue to cook for about another hour or until it temps, and the veggies are soft.

Notes

*You can also make this in a crockpot, and it would just as good. Just follow the same ingredients and proceed with the instructions. Set it on low, and cook for about 8 hours, or until the meat and the veggies are tender.

Set it on low, and cook for about 8 hours, or until the meat and the veggies are tender. The best way to serve it is over rice, or course mashed potatoes, or buttered noodles. It pairs well with a crusty bread or, side salad.
